The College Board carries out a standardized test, called the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test). It assesses the willingness of students to study at the university level and is used extensively in the US, the UK, Canada and elsewhere as an undergraduate admission test.

Having a good SAT score assists students in getting admission in the best universities in the foreign country, merit scholarship opportunities, and indicators of academic preparedness. Many competitive colleges in the US, UK and Canada also require it.

SAT tests verbal reasoning, mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, and writing. It examines the skills of a student in terms of his or her analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Most students attempt the SAT in Grade 11 (between March–June) with a second attempt in the early months of Grade 12. Early registration is recommended since seats fill up quickly.

Applications to colleges are accompanied by good SAT scores that are used in the admissions, scholarships, and honors programs. They give a competitive edge when they are seeking admission in foreign universities.
